Sharing With Guests

Guest Guide uses time-limited share sessions to give guests temporary access to sensitive content like door codes and WiFi passwords. Sessions automatically expire — you never need to manually revoke access.

Creating a Share Session

You can create a share session from two places:

From the Dashboard

Click the Share with Guests button on any property card. This opens the share modal.

Navigate to Links & Sharing from the sidebar and click Create Session next to the Shared Guide Sessions heading.

The Share Modal

The modal is titled "Share with guests" and has two date-time fields:

  • Valid from — when the guest link becomes active. Defaults to the current time, rounded up to the nearest 15-minute interval.
  • Valid until — when the link expires. Defaults to the next day at 12:00 PM.

The modal description explains: "Create a time-limited link. Guests can view the guide with full details only during the selected period."

Click Create link to generate the session. The start time must be before the end time.

After Creating a Session

Once created, the modal shows:

  • The share link in a read-only input field (e.g. guestguide.cc/g/xyz98765)
  • A copy button to copy the link to your clipboard
  • A Done button to close the modal

The link uses a unique 8-character code that is separate from your guide's permanent code. Copy this link and send it to your guest via any messaging channel.

If you opened the modal from the dashboard, a hint links you to the Links & Sharing page for full session management.

How Sessions Work for Guests

When a guest opens the shared link, their experience depends on timing:

Before Check-in (Not Started)

The guide loads but all sensitive content is masked. A banner appears at the top:

Link not active yet — you will be able to see codes and passwords [start date]

Door codes show as •••••••• and the WiFi password is hidden.

During the Active Window

The guest sees the complete guide with all content visible:

  • Door codes are shown in the arrival instructions
  • WiFi network name and password are visible and copyable
  • The I'm In! button is available — clicking it sends an email notification to the host

After Check-out (Expired)

The guide is still viewable but sensitive content is masked again. A banner appears:

Link expired — you will no longer be able to see codes and passwords after [end date]

What Gets Masked

When a share session is not active, the following content is replaced with ••••••••:

  • Door codes in arrival step descriptions (anywhere {code} appears)
  • WiFi network name
  • WiFi password (the copy button is also hidden)

All other content — property details, arrival step descriptions (minus the codes), amenity instructions, images, and videos — remains fully visible regardless of session status.

Every published guide has two types of links:

Permanent LinkShare Session Link
Format/g/[guide-code]/g/[session-code]
ExpiresNeverYes, at the specified date
Sensitive contentAlways masked (unless you're the owner)Visible only during the active window
Who to use it forSharing publicly where no codes are neededSharing with guests who need codes and passwords

Editing and Deleting Sessions

On the Links & Sharing page, each session shows:

  • The session code
  • The validity period (formatted dates with arrow separator)
  • A status badge: Active (green), Upcoming (amber), or Expired (gray)

You can:

  • Copy the link — click the link icon
  • Edit — click the pencil icon to change the start/end dates
  • Delete — click the trash icon. A confirmation dialog warns: "Guests will no longer be able to access the guide using code [CODE]. This action cannot be undone."

I'm In! — Guest Arrival Notification

When a guest views the guide through an active share session, they see an I'm In! button at the bottom of the arrival instructions section. Clicking it:

  1. Sends an email to the host notifying them the guest has arrived
  2. Disables the button so the notification can only be sent once per session

If the guest returns to the guide later, the button remains disabled with the message already sent.
