Airbnb Cleaning Checklist: Room-by-Room Turnover Template for Hosts

By The Guest Guide Team · Updated October 23, 2026

An Airbnb cleaning checklist is the list your cleaner (or you) runs between guests—not the short “strip beds and lock up” list you send travelers at checkout. When turnover is tight, a repeatable vacation rental cleaning checklist stops missed bathrooms, half-empty trash, and “I thought the last team did it” surprises.

This post covers how guest checkout tasks differ from turnover cleaning, a copy-paste Airbnb cleaning checklist template room by room, how to share the list with cleaners, a printable or PDF workflow, and FAQ. For what guests should do before they leave, use Airbnb checkout instructions—not a duplicate of this list.

Guest checkout vs turnover cleaning

Checkout (guest job). Five to eight bullets: time, keys, trash, dishes, linens, thermostat, lock up. Guests are not your cleaning crew.

Turnover (host or cleaner job). Full reset: every room, every surface, supplies restocked, laundry processed, inspection photos if you use them.

Mixing the two in one message frustrates guests and still leaves you with a half-clean unit. Keep checkout in your house rules template and messages; keep this checklist for your turnover team.

Before you start turnover

Run these once per changeover, in order:

  1. Walk-through for damage — Photos of anything beyond normal wear; note in your host log before cleaning covers it up.
  2. Ventilate — Open windows or run fans if the unit was closed up; check for odors before you approve the clean.
  3. Laundry first — Strip all beds and gather towels; start wash early if same-day arrival.
  4. Trash out — Kitchen, baths, bedrooms, outdoor bins; replace liners in every can.
  5. Check calendar — Next check-in time and any early-arrival message in the thread.

Share check-in time, checkout time, and parking notes in the same guest guide link you send travelers—cleaners benefit when lockbox location and supply closets are documented there for co-hosts.

That is a practical Airbnb cleaning checklist template you can print, export to PDF, or paste into a turnover app—same structure as a vacation rental cleaning checklist for Vrbo or direct bookings.

Room-by-room priorities when time is short

Same-day turnover with a 4 PM check-in and 11 AM checkout means roughly five hours. If you must cut, protect these:

  1. Bathrooms and beds — Guests forgive a dusty shelf; they do not forgive hair in the tub or wrong sheets.
  2. Kitchen food surfaces — Counter, sink, stovetop, fridge handle.
  3. Floors in main paths — Entry, kitchen, bath, bedroom route.
  4. Trash and odor — Empty everything; run a quick vent check.

Deep tasks (inside oven, behind couch, window tracks) belong on a weekly or monthly rotation—not every turnover unless your rate supports it.

Share the checklist with cleaners and co-hosts

  • One master list — Same template for every stay; highlight add-ons (pet stay, long booking) in the reservation note.
  • Access info — Lockbox, alarm, supply closet: mirror what is in your check-in instructions so cleaners are not texting you at 9 AM.
  • Restock standard — Quantities on the checklist (“4 toilet paper rolls”) beat “restock bathroom.”
  • Checkout alignment — If guests strip beds, say so on the guest checkout list; cleaners know to skip stripping or only verify.

Optional: store supply locations and appliance notes in Guest Guide amenities cards (washer, dishwasher, vacuum) so co-hosts open one link instead of a binder.

Airbnb cleaning checklist PDF and print tips

Want a printable version? You do not need a paid download:

  1. Copy the template above into Google Docs or Word.
  2. Add your property name, restock counts, and local quirks (recycling rules, septic-safe products).
  3. Export or print to PDF; laminate one copy in the supply closet for backup.

Update the PDF when you add a bedroom or change linen storage—date the footer so cleaners know they have the current version.

Turnover is backstage; guests still need check-in, WiFi, rules, and checkout time in one place. Guest Guide publishes one mobile link per property: arrival steps at the top, checkout time on the guide, house rules for guest-facing checkout steps, and amenities with photos or short instructions for the washer, thermostat, or coffee machine—useful for cleaners and guests alike.

  1. Sign up.
  2. Add your property, set check-in and checkout times, and document appliances in amenities from this checklist.
  3. Share the link in pre-arrival messages (message templates) and with co-hosts.

Solo is $49 once for one property; Pro is $99 once for unlimited guides (pricing).

FAQ

What is an Airbnb cleaning checklist?
A room-by-room list for turnover between guests—cleaning, restocking, and final walk-through—not the short list you ask guests to complete at checkout.

Is there a free Airbnb cleaning checklist template?
Yes—the copy-paste block on this page is free to adapt for your property or cleaning team.

How is a vacation rental cleaning checklist different from checkout instructions?
Checkout instructions tell guests how to leave; a turnover checklist tells your cleaner how to reset the home. See checkout instructions for the guest side.

Should guests do the full cleaning checklist?
No. Guests handle light departure tasks; professional or host turnover handles sanitizing and linens unless your listing clearly states otherwise.

What should every turnover include?
Fresh linens on every bed, sanitized bathrooms, kitchen food surfaces clean, floors vacuumed or mopped on main paths, trash removed, and supplies restocked to your standard.

Can I use the same checklist on Vrbo and direct bookings?
Yes. Turnover is property-specific, not channel-specific.
